The meeting of three thematics: geography, urban planning and port economics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Peter V Hall is Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Academic, and Professor of Urban Studies at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. He is also an associate member of the Geography Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He received his doctorate in city and regional planning from the University of California at Berkeley, and he previously worked in local government in Durban, South Africa. His research examines the connections between port cities, seaports, and logistics, as well as community, local economic, and employment development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Hall is the author of numerous journal articles, book chapters, and reports. His publications include the co-edited \u201cIntegrating Seaports and Trade Corridors\u201d (Ashgate, 2011) and \u201cCities, Regions and Flow\u201d (Routledge, 2013).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was director of the “Reclaiming the New Westminster Waterfront Research Partnership”, and co-investigator of the \u201cThe Green Shipping Project: Governance and Innovation for a Sustainable Maritime Supply Chain\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Transport Geography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ports and waterfronts are fascinating and important because they are places where communities, cities, and regions meet global economic actors and forces, giving rise to development models specific to port cities.
