A recognized figure in the port community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Geraldine Knatz was the first woman to serve as the Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles from 2006 to 2014, she currently the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees at Altasea. Located in San Pedro, California, this project, currently in progress is transforming 35 acres of land at the Port of Los Angeles into an ocean-side innovation campus that will bring education, science, business, and the community together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geraldine is also a Professor of the Practice of Policy and Engineering, a joint appointment between the University of Southern California\u2019s Price School of Public Policy and the Viterbi School of Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A leader to limit the environmental impact of port activities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Geraldine Knatz is an international authority on global trade, sustainable port development and the global shipping industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When she was the Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, she made a significant impact through the creation and implementation of the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan, an aggressive plan that reduced air emissions by combined port operations by over 70 percent over five years which is recognized around the world for its innovation and success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was also the Managing Director of the Port of Long Beach where she also led several environmental initiatives, including the Green Port Policy and Truck Trip Reduction Program, and pioneered the first habitat and wetland restorations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is past president of the American Association of Port Authorities, past president of the International Association of Ports, and the founding chairwoman of the World Ports Climate Initiative which is now developed into the World Ports Sustainability Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was very excited to accept AIVP\u2019s invitation to co-chair the AIVP Prize Antoine Rufenacht.
