Mersin Maritime Faculty: A Collaborative Investment in Human Capital for a Resilient Port City

A project supported by: Mersin Maritime Faculty

Completion date: 2025

Total budget: €10,5 million

Main Agenda 2030 by AIVP Commitment: Goal 5 – Investing in Human Capital

To sum up

Ports usually invest in terminals, equipment, and infrastructure. Mersin, for its part, has invested in the people who will operate, transform, and protect its maritime economy for the next generation. This project is a core part of Mersin’s port-city development strategy, building on the human capital that underpins the port’s long-term competitiveness and resilience. Through an internationally oriented Maritime Faculty, the project addresses the evolving technological, operational, and safety demands of the maritime industry. It combines advanced simulation technologies, immersive emergency response training, and education aligned with international standards. By bridging education and industry expectations through hands-on training, this investment builds a sustainable, competitive talent pipeline that adds value to the port-city community and strengthens Mersin’s maritime capacity. Beyond workforce development, it structures Mersin’s port-city ecosystem by bringing key stakeholders, including Mersin International Port, Mersin Chamber of Shipping, IMEAK Chamber of Shipping, Mersin University, and the Mersin Governorship, together in a collaborative network. This synergy deepens port-city relations, turning traditional interactions into a shared vision for sustainable development. More than an educational center, this project fosters a shared spatial and social vision built on knowledge, innovation, and cooperation among these partners.
