The AIVP Prize Antoine Rufenacht: opening of the call for applications!

After months of hard work, we are thrilled to announce that the call for applications for the first edition of the AIVP Prize Antoine Rufenacht is open for submission: 

What is the AIVP Prize Antoine Rufenacht?

It is the only international recognition dedicated to port cities that have carried out an outstanding development project which contributes to improving port-city relations.

Who can apply?

The AIVP Prize Antoine Rufenacht is open to port authorities and/or local or regional authorities from maritime and river port cities, for both AIVP members and non-AIVP members.

To be eligible, applicants should meet the following criteria:

1Port City interface: the project must be located in a port city interface zone and/or on a former port site.

2. Completion: the project must have been completed in the last three years.

3Promoting global development: the project must promote a global development strategy for the port city.

4. Sustainable development: the project must be in line with the sustainable development goals identified in the Agenda 2030 by AIVP.

What will be the selection process?

An expert panel will assess each entry and deliberate to identify five maximum projects which will be voted on by the Grand Jury. The final decision will be taken by the Grand Jury based both on the Expert Panel recommendations and an in-person interview of the finalists.

The Expert Panel is chaired by Carola Hein who is Professor and Head of the Chair History of Architecture and Urban Planning at Delft University of Technology (Netherlands). She is the founding director of the PortCityFutures Center.

The Grand Jury is chaired by Geraldine Knatz who was the first woman to serve as the Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles. She is also the former chairwoman of the American Association of Port Authorities.

What are the key dates?

  • From the 11th of March to the 23rd of June 2024: preparation and submission of applications
  • 5th and 6th of September 2024: in-person meeting of the Expert Panel to select the finalist projects
  • 10th and 11th of October 2024: in-person meeting of the Grand Jury in Le Havre (France), interview of the finalist, selection of the winner
  • 27th, 28th and 29th of November 2024: announcement of the winner and official Prize ceremony during the AIVP World Conference in Lisbon (Portugal)
