Multihull spot between city and logistic harbour

A project supported by: the Nautical Sea Development Centre Port-Saint-Louis-Provence

Completion date: 2024

To sum up

The project carried by the Nautical Sea Development Centre Port-Saint-Louis-Provence aims to create a unique multihull spot in the Mediterranean serving as a focal point for maritime enthusiasts and tourists.

The multihull spot is meant to offer a range of services and amenities for sailors including berthing facilities, repair and maintenance services, training programs and sailing events. By providing these specialized services, the spot seeks to attract multihull sailors from around the world, thereby fostering international maritime exchange and boosting tourism.

Located in the direct vicinity of the port of Marseille-Fos and the town center of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, this new recreational facility is part of the overall development strategy of the port city by contributing to its blue growth and economic diversification. Today, there are almost 4 500 dry and afloat vessels and about 500 jobs that keep the Mazet peninsula, the nautical center’s playground going. These jobs are not only related to yachting, but also to the sea, with traditional activities such as fishing, shellfish and oyster farming.

Outstanding features :

  • The project includes environmental-friendly design, construction and operating practices such as the use of renewable energy sources, as well as adaptation to extreme climatic events: storms, sea levels, increased precipitation;
  • Introduction of a waste management system for sailors that encourages the sorting, recycling and waste reduction of waste reduction at source;
  • The multihull spot is located at the heard of a marketplace that allows limited travel for businesses and yachtsmen;
  • Near the multihull base, a fishing harbour has been rebuilt to make it visually more attractive and offer optimal quality of services and management of seafood products. Boaters can go directly to fisherman and oyster farmers to consume local products;
  • Creation of an intergenerational park to attract residents, tourists, boaters, employees and public cultural events;
  • Development of the onshore power supply to limit CO2 emissions during stopovers;
  • Building of a floating sanitary pontoon to limit soil artificialization;
  • Removal and recycling of the wrecks polluting the ecosystem.
