The Planetarium of Burgas
A project supported by: Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company
Completion date: 2023
To sum up
The Planetarium is a combination of contemporary architecture and modern space for education and entertainment. By building the Planetarium, part of the PlanetUm (Planet Mind) science Centre, the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company wanted to complete its overall concept of developing a single urban educational center, where children and parents will acquire new knowledge and skills through encounters with science.
The Planetarium is situated at an attractive location in the city of Burgas at the Black Sea coast, within the Public Access Area of the Port Terminal Burgas East. It attracts the attention with its unusual architectural design while at the same time, creating a unique space for learning and entertainment. The Planetarium is a sphere with mirror surface, consisting of stainless steel arranged in sectors. The ring is a metal-profile structure, lined with weather-resistant materials. The facility is a shining spherical metal structure, boasting a projection dome with an 8-meter diameter. An inclined walkway winds around the building provides access for people with disabilities.
The Planetarium in Burgas is a unique space for learning, entertainment and socialization. Its realization is a strategic step towards attracting more education, entertainment and tourism to the region while contributing to open up the city to the sea and improve the city-port relationship.
